Millennial Beat stems from Gen-Y (those born between the early 1980’s and the millennium) and beat. When I came up with the ethos for this blog I wanted to be a voice for the millennial generation. The word beat has multiple meanings in this context. First, it refers to musical beats and feeling the pulse of the digital age. Secondly, beat pays homage to the Beat Generation literary movement, and the beatniks.
Beat was slang for beaten down, but to Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsburg beat also referred to beatitude and took on a spiritual meaning. Beatitude means supreme blessedness. Though the end of our generation was marked by the destruction of the Twin Towers we are not defined by tragedy. We will choose to be defined by our blessings.
